Smoky Mountain Baseball

Smoky Mountain Baseball is a casual cocktail full of heat, flavored with smoked paprika.

By Request!

This cocktail is a sequel to the Cal Raleigh and is by request! The original cocktail was in honor of Cal Raleigh, who is currently tearing up the diamond as a catcher for the Tacoma Rainiers. I was thrilled to see him extend his hitting streak, in person, by another two games (eventually bringing it to 23 consecutive games – wow).

After the original cocktail, a fan suggested on Twitter that since Cal grew up and played ball at the base of the Great Smoky Mountains, that maybe the original tribute cocktail should feature a little more smoke.

Folks, the Pandemic Pub aims to please! Great idea! The only smoke I had in the house was a bottle of BBQ sauce, as well as some smoked paprika. Well, OK! It’s not the first time I’ve made a cocktail with BBQ sauce!

Add Smoke

We took out the cinnamon from the original, plus a bit of the sweetness, and citrus, and added the smoke! The BBQ sauce went into the shaker, and the smoked paprika went into the rim.

The drink was hot, just like I like it. There was a little bit of sweetness and fruit flavor from the Triple Sec as well as the Southern Comfort. That sweetness wasn’t unpleasant, but didn’t necessarily need to be there.

This is a nice one for a hot day, drinking on the porch before dinner.

In tandem, I made a cocktail for my dog this evening too!

Cheers and Play Ball!

  • 3 oz Southern Comfort

  • 3/4 ox Triple Sec

  • 2 tsp BBQ sauce

  • 1 lime (juice)

  • lime to garnish

  • smoked paprika

  • salt

  • Add all liquids to a shaker with ice; shake until satisfied.
  • Rim the glass with a lime wedge, then dip the glass in a mixture of salt and paprika (don’t forget to do this before adding ice to the drink! It’s amazing how often that happens to me!)
  • Pour over ice, take out to the front porch, turn on the game, and enjoy! Cheers!
