Steal His Look

Bernie Sanders, with mask and mittens, sits near Steal His Look cocktails.

Over here at the Pandemic Pub, we can hardly catch our breath, we’re laughing so hard at the Bernie memes.

What’s that? Did someone say they’re getting a little tired of seeing Bernie everywhere? Get out of our pub.

Really, this is just what we needed, and it’s been nice to laugh, and relax our too-tight shoulders, and stop waiting for an avalanche of shoes to drop.

Hello, 2021!

We don’t observe Dry January here at the Pandemic Pub, but it’s true that we haven’t partaken of many cocktails yet this year. We chalk it up exclusively to toasting with champagne. But here was an opportunity that we couldn’t miss.

We built on what we created a few nights ago with Arthur’s World and the Captain Arthur Hastings. We’ve been on a rose water kick lately, and already knew from the Hastings that we’d want the depth from the vanilla.

But this one wasn’t a slam dunk right away…at first, I thought I detected a bitterness from too much vanilla, but after tasting again, I changed my mind. Then, while making the rim, I pulled a Pandemic Pub move and tried to use up some spices from the cabinet, hoping to layer an additional taste of citrus with some dried Orange Peel. Personally, I could hardly taste it at all, but when Elizabeth tried it and thought it was too bitter, I discarded that and went back to the drawing board.

This one was a keeper – a lot going on, just like Bernie’s schedule below, but it worked! Deep and complex, a little sweet, quite citrusy. The lavender and pepper of the rim, as well as the vanilla, gave it more of a wintry taste…recalling the smell of cooking in a warm kitchen on a cold afternoon. Who says a margarita is just for summertime? Bring me those mittens!

Yum, I remember it as if it were yesterday, or possibly three days ago.

Time, she is elusive in this pandemic!
