The Happy Birthday

The Happy Birthday is a gin and limoncello cocktail, garnished with basil.

It was Elizabeth’s birthday! A burst water pipe at my house in Tacoma took me away for several days, but I was back, and it was time to celebrate! Of course, a cocktail is just the thing for that!

Limoncello is a nice, summery drink, and nothing is cooler, in terms of temperature (or style, some might say!), than gin. I garnished this drink with thyme from Elizabeth’s garden, and we had a nice pandemic birthday on the porch.

By this time in the pandemic, this wasn’t our quaranteam’s first birthday, and with virtual graduations the month before, lots of people everywhere had devised newer, more distanced ways to celebrate anything that deserved celebrating. Pandemic birthdays are quiet, but fun in their own way. Elizabeth’s brother, sister-in-law and nephew came over, and we ate Thai food outside, socially distanced and masked when not eating.

Happy birthday, babe!
